Nurse Bess falls in love with patient Stan. When he’s discharged, he asks her to obtain morphine from the hospital for him. Stan later says they’ll have to break up because she doesn’t fit in with his high-roller friends. Bess starts dealing drugs to earn money for nicer clothes. When her younger sister Sue arrives in town, she starts dating Stan. When Stan is hospitalised after an overdose, Bess learns Sue is also an addict. Sue is badly injured trying to steal drugs. Bess’s ex-boyfriend Artie says “you’re vicious—-a menace!” Bess turns herself in and is sent to prison.
