After Rita’s sailor boyfriend Jerry is killed in action, she goes to work in an Army camp office. She dates soldier Ritchie and they fall in love. When she learns he’s being shipped overseas, Rita alters Ritchie’s orders to have him assigned to the camp. This upsets Ritchie’s plans for a promotion and transfer. Rita does it again and then tells Ritchie. “How could you have presumed to do that? You don’t know the meaning of love!” He dumps her. Rita confesses and is fired. She joins the WACs to atone for her error.
