Bess is the daughter of a retired policeman and her brother Perry is also on the force, so she becomes a police officer. She works in a poor neighbourhood and falls in love with Rick, then discovers he’s part of a gang selling drugs to youngsters. Refusing to believe Rick is bad, Bess resigns from the police rather than testify against him. However, when Rick attempts to kill Perry, Bess knocks him off a roof. The gang is smashed; Bess is suspended from the force for 6 months.
